Belaya Dacha invests 1 billion rubles in salad production in Novorossiysk

Belaya Dacha has started construction in Novorossiysk of the first stage of the Salads from the Sea production complex for growing head lettuces in irrigated open ground and baby salads in tunnel film greenhouses. A company representative told Vedomosti about this. The project itself will be implemented on an area of 850 hectares, its design capacity is 5,000 tons of lettuce per year, of which 3,000 tons will be grown year-round. It will allow Belaya Dacha to more than double production (now 4,000 tons) and provide its own raw materials for its processing sites, a company spokesman said. He estimates the investment in the project at 1 billion rubles, which is the company’s own funds. It is planned to launch in the third quarter of 2022, but Belaya Dacha intends to reach its maximum capacity only in the second quarter of next year.

The main volume of Belaya Dacha’s current capacity is salad processing: washing, slicing, packaging, etc. (the company’s plants are located in the Moscow region, the Republic of Tatarstan and the Novosibirsk region. – “Vedomosti”), in this segment the company is one one of the largest players in the Russian market, says Irina Koziy, CEO of FruitNews. However, according to her, this company is also a major importer of salads, and the new production reduces the share of foreign supplies. According to her, 5,000 tons is a significant figure for the market. The Center for Industry Expertise of Rosselkhozbank estimates that the consumption of salads and herbs in Russia amounted to 230,000 tons in 2020. But, according to Goats, these figures may be inflated. According to the Federal Customs Service, in 2021 Russia imported salad vegetables (as well as spinach and lettuce, but less greens) about 60,240 tons. Among the main suppliers – Turkey, Serbia, Northern Macedonia, Azerbaijan, Egypt, China.
